The lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire will forever change when they meet Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events. A few weeks before the show’s Friday the 13th premiere, Neil Patrick Harris talked about his new character and teased “big, random musical” numbers.
A Singing Count Olaf on A Series of Unfortunate Events?
Aside from his comedy resume, Harris is pretty known as a song and dance man. Following his stint in How I Met Your Mother, the actor appeared on Broadway and then on a now defunct variety show. Unsurprisingly, this will figure into the upcoming children’s show.
In an interview with AV Club, Harris revealed that A Series of Unfortunate Events will incorporate music in its episodes. “[Director] Barry [Sonnenfield] likes music, [book author] Daniel [Handler] likes music,” he revealed.
“Olaf sings a big random musical number called ‘The Count,’ which is his welcoming song to the kids when they first arrive,” the actor teased. “So musically, they embellished a bit here and there to add a layer of sense of humor and weirdness.”
Moreover, there is going to be a theme song that Handler himself wrote with the musical supervisor, Nick Urata. Whether Harris sang it or not will be revealed when the series premieres next week!
A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 will premiere on Jan. 13 on Netflix.
